These vegan biscuits are perfect for both adults and kids to enjoy as a family
My husband and I enjoy having some kind of cracker or bread with soups. It makes the meal much more comforting! But to switch things up a bit, I decided to try and make my own vegan biscuits for the first time.
I wanted them to be “kid-friendly” so that our daughter can have some too. Instead of using (vegan) butter like in traditional biscuits, I wanted to use a more healthful fat. So, I tried it with avocado oil and grapeseed oil.
Avocado oil is a great pantry oil to have on hand. Not only does it help meet calorie requirements for vegan kids, it also provides some omega-3s and it’s perfect for high heat cooking—such as baking these biscuits. It can also be used to drizzle on salads or cooked vegetables, which is something I do for my daughter to help her meet her fat needs for the day.
I generally recommend using oil in home cooked meals for my clients because it’s a very easy way to help vegan kids meet their energy requirements. One of the things that I kept in mind is making these biscuits simple and soft enough to be appropriate for kids. In making the biscuits, I wanted to simplify the prep and also allow the opportunity for kids to join in the making of them. They’re made just like you would a cookie so it’s a good activity for your vegan kid to participate in the kitchen.
I recommend these biscuits for vegan kids 1 year and up. Depending on your child’s eating/chewing skill, they may not be appropriate for infants under the age of 12 months. This is simply because they are flaky and soft which can be a choking hazard. But again, every child’s eating skill is different and some infants can handle this texture better than others at different stages of growth.

Easy Vegan Herb Drop Biscuits
Makes: 11 - 12 biscuits
Prep Time: 8 - 10 minutes
Total Time: 18 - 22 minutes
Ingredients
1 ¾ cups (290gm) all-purpose flour
4 teaspoons (18gm) baking powder
1 teaspoon (8gm) salt (I used iodized salt)
1 ½ teaspoons (6gm) dried oregano
1 tablespoon (11gm) hemp hearts
½ cup oil (90gm) (grapeseed or avocado oil is what I’ve used)
¾ cup + 1 tablespoon (180ml) unsweetened plant milk (I used soy)
Directions
Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C).
In a medium mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt, oregano, and hemp hearts. Mix together until well-combined.
Make a well in the center and add the plant milk and oil. Stir until well-combined.
Line a silicone baking sheet or parchment paper on a baking sheet pan.
Using a 1 tablespoon as measuring spoon, scoop out mixture and roll between your palms to form a ball. Then place on baking sheet pan. Continue with this step until entire dough is complete (makes about 11- 12 biscuits)
Bake for 10 - 12 minutes (for softer biscuits aim for 10 minutes).
