Hi! I’m Karla Moreno-Bryce

A vegan pediatric Registered Dietitian, speaker, writer, and mom to two vegan daughters. I’m dedicated to helping you feel confident as a vegan parent to support the growth and development of your vegan kids. 

Growing up in a Mexican household, cow’s milk, eggs, and other animal-based foods were regularly part of my diet. My vegan journey began in 2008 when I was in college where I was introduced to the inhumane treatment of farmed animals from a pamphlet a group of students were passing on campus. At that time, my choice for transitioning to a vegan diet was accepted by my family, mostly because I showed that I could prepare my own meals (with the help of Vegetarian Times Magazine!). 

However, that same acceptance wasn’t there when advocating to raise my two daughters vegan. I didn’t feel heard, seen, understood or acknowledged of my choice. That lack of support and pushback made me doubt my choice—even as a trained expert in nutrition—and whether it was truly possible to raise my girls vegan in a society that yet accepts this lifestyle.

I learned that I wasn’t alone in experiencing this. Too many vegan parents were in a similar situation. That’s where my passion to be a resource for your came about. To provide support, guidance and to raise awareness of how kids on a vegan lifestyle grow and develop normally.

 

Through my trusted blog and Vegan Kids Nutrition Podcast, online programs, my popular Vegan Kids Cookbook, and an audience in over 45 countries, I help vegan parents just like you feel supported of your choice and feel reassured you’re meeting all your child’s nutritional needs.

Even as a trained expert in the field of nutrition, I wasn’t taught how to do any of this. Vegan nutrition for kids was never covered when studying to become a dietitian (shocking, right?). And I don’t have any expert mentors on speed dial to help me along my vegan feeding journey. 

I just knew I wanted to follow a lifestyle that aligned with my values. One that I could instill to my daughters and live a life that exemplifies why I chose to no longer eat animals. 

COMPASSION

Compassion is the one word I live by—in how I treat others, my philosophy around feeding, and the reason why I adopted an eating pattern that excluded any form of exploitation of animals. 

My mission is to help you stay true to your values for choosing to raise a vegan family and to give you the tools, guidance, and support you need to feel fully confident feeding your vegan kids, knowing you’re giving them everything they need to thrive.

A common question asked by vegan parents is: “What supplements does my baby/toddler/ older kid need?” 

And if you can relate with this question, you’re not alone. I have a feeling you’re here because you want to seek answers to common questions other vegan parents have. My hope is that you find what you need along your vegan feeding journey through this community.

I believe you can confidently raise vegan kids and stay true to your values despite the pushback and negative comments you may get from family, friends, and/or healthcare providers. No matter how challenging it may be to raise vegan kids in a non-vegan world feels, remember you’re helping to shape a compassionate future for all. 

You’re making a difference and a positive impact for humans, non-human animals, and our planet. More than anything, you’re raising compassionate humans that will carry this value with them for the rest of their lives—and beyond. That is something to feel proud of.
